Alzheimers Awareness Month – Weatherford, OK

Dr. Douglas Cook, Weatherford OK Chiropractor, wants to remind his patients that June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness month. This June, the Alzheimer’s Association is asking the public to Use Your Brain to Help End Alzheimer’s. A series of fundraising events will be held on June 21, Summer Solstice, the¬†Longest Day.

There are presently 44 million people in the world with Alzheimer’s. By 2030, there will be 76 million people with Alzheimer’s in the U.S. alone.

The symptoms of Alzheimer’s are sometimes difficult to attribute to something so serious. When the symptoms of memory and intellectual difficulties occur, a neuropsychologist should try to determine whether these are due to Alzheimer’s or a related dementia.

There is as yet no medical test that can diagnose Alzheimer’s disease. Only at autopsy can an examination of the brain prove dementia.

There is a saying that losing your car keys is normal, but forgetting what the keys are for is Alzheimer’s. When a person gets lost driving, particularly at night, it may be an early warning sign. Many people just stop driving after dark, but don’t inform their families or caregivers. Loved ones need to watch for changed behaviors like this.

There are 10 signs that are symptoms of Alzheimer’s that can be found at theAlzheimer’s Association¬†website.

Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s can be a very difficult job, both physically and emotionally. Others need to be sensitive to this and offer to take some of the burden from time to time.

Dr. Douglas Cook, Weatherford OK Chiropractor, will join the rest of the country this June for Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness month. He encourages his patients to Use Your Brain to Help End Alzheimer’s Disease. Rducating the public and raising badly needed funds perhaps means a quicker end to the disease.

Enjoy,
